  • What we stand for

Our vision is healthy lakes, landscapes and lives.

We care for the South West’s lakes and landscapes so nature can thrive and people can enjoy these special places, today and for generations to come.

Join us in protecting the places that make our region unique.

Why it matters

The lakes and landscapes we care for are some of the South West’s most treasured natural assets. They support wildlife, provide much needed space for recreation, and help communities connect with the natural world. By looking after them in the right way, we can create long term benefits for nature, people and place.

The change we want to see

By the early 2030s, we want to demonstrate clear progress towards a healthier environment and healthier communities. This includes:

  • Healthier lakes with richer biodiversity and active stewardship from visitors and clubs.
  • Healthier landscapes that are well managed, climate resilient, accessible and cherished.
  • Healthier lives, where more people — especially those who face barriers to accessing nature — experience the wellbeing benefits of time spent outdoors.

These ambitions guide everything we do: from conservation and heritage care, to access and inclusion, to volunteering, education and recreation.

Support our work

You can play a vital role in protecting the South West’s lakes and landscapes. Whether you choose to:

  • Donate
  • Volunteer
  • Join as a Friend
  • Partner with us

Or simply champion responsible enjoyment of our sites, your support makes a real difference.

Together, we can protect these special places for wildlife, for people, and for future generations.

At South West Lakes Trust, our vision is simple and ambitious: healthy lakes, landscapes and lives.

Healthy lakes, landscapes and lives reflects what matters most to us — thriving natural places that support wildlife, inspire people, and strengthen the wellbeing of communities across the South West.

Every day we work to protect and care for the region’s reservoirs, woodlands, grasslands and heritage sites so that nature can flourish and people can enjoy these special places, now and for generations to come.

What we stand for

Our work is guided by a set of values that shape how we look after the landscapes in our care and how we support the people who visit, volunteer or partner with us.

Inclusive

Everyone should feel welcome in the outdoors. We respect others, remove barriers, and create opportunities for all to enjoy our lakes and landscapes.

Trustworthy

We keep our word. We act with honesty, fairness and professionalism in everything we do.

Collaborative

We achieve more when we work together — with communities, partners, clubs, volunteers and each other.

Responsible

We take decisions that benefit society and the environment. We look after our sites with care and accountability.

Ambitious

We are determined to do more for people and the planet. We aim high and continually improve the impact we deliver.
