About us Our impact Our impact For more than two decades, South West Lakes Trust has helped people across the South West to enjoy the outdoors, discover wildlife and feel the wellbeing benefits of time spent by water. Since our founding in 2000, we’ve grown into the region’s largest combined environmental and recreation charity, committed to protecting our lakes and landscapes for public benefit. Every year, these special places welcome millions of visitors — families exploring woodland trails, young people learning new skills on the water, and communities finding space to relax, recharge and reconnect. Our vision of Healthy Lakes, Landscapes and Lives guides everything we do, from conservation and education to recreation and community partnerships. Making a difference for people and nature Looking after our landscapes We protect the lakes, woodlands and habitats in our care, working with staff, volunteers and partners to enhance biodiversity and keep these special places thriving. Creating welcoming spaces for all From accessible trails to inclusive outdoor facilities, we make it easier for everyone to enjoy time by the water and experience the benefits of being outdoors. Inspiring activity and adventure Our lakes are hubs for healthy recreation — from sailing and paddleboarding to walking and wildlife watching — helping people build confidence, skills and wellbeing. Supporting learning and community Through education programmes, youth initiatives and community partnerships, we help people of all ages connect with nature and discover new opportunities. Together, we’re creating lasting change Our impact is built on strong partnerships — with South West Water, community groups, funders, schools and clubs. Working together, we deliver conservation projects, improve access, support local communities and create thousands of moments of joy, discovery and connection each year. We’re proud of all we’ve achieved — and excited about what comes next. With your support, we can continue to protect these special places, champion nature and create opportunities for people to enjoy the outdoors for generations to come.
