Successful seed gathering event at Venford At South West Lakes Trust, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year with a year-long programme of celebrations between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026. So far, we've hosted a community open day at Longham Lakes, a Wildlife and Countryside event at Burrator Reservoir, a special 25-year Love Your Lakes photo competition, a dawn chorus event in partnership with Cornwall Birders at Tamar Lakes and other various events. More to come, keep up to date on our website. On Saturday 12 October, we joined forces with fellow charity Moor Trees, also celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, for a special day of seed collecting at Venford Reservoir to help create a more nature rich Dartmoor. 26 volunteers kindly came along to help us on the day. Seed gathering consisted of walking around the reservoir and through the woodland on the other side of the of the dam. We were collecting a variety of seeds such as Acorns, Holly Berries, Crab Apples and Hawthorn Berries. Venford was the perfect location for this due to its surrounding broadleaf woodland. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who came along to help out with our seed gathering. It was a lovely day out foraging and exploring the woodlands. We also want to thank Moor Trees. It is a pleasure to celebrate our 25th year together! Happy Birthday to a wonderful organisation! Find out more on the Moor Trees website.
